Vestry Meeting Minutes St. Francis Episcopal Church April 8, 2008
The April 8, 2008 Vestry Meeting was held at St. Francis’ Parish Hall and called
to order at 7:00pm with Fr. Kelsey Hogue providing the opening prayer.
Present were Sr. Warden: Brad Bode, presiding, Jr. Warden: Don Eigenberg, Terry
Haney, Greg Suhr, Al Williams, Darcy Haslam, Sheryl Spath, Joyce Walsh, guests:
co-treasurers Don Kepler & Kathy Yates, Pastor Karen Anderson, Pastor Bob
Manasek, and Jane Sayre as secretary.
Absent: Pati McLellan, Julie Fancher, Gina Shedd.
The meeting was prefaced with a presentation from Darcy Haslam, Karen Anderson,
Clark Wisniewski, Jane Sayre, and Father Kelsey, sharing from the Start Up Start
Over conference in Vancouver BC. Darcy showed a DVD that she put together with
photos, text, and music from the conference material. Each shared their
impressions, activities, and sense of purpose found through the conference.
After discussion and questions, a group was formed to gather ideas for the next
meeting, with Brad, Sheryl, and Bob Manasek agreeing to participate, and form a
direction for the future of St. Francis Church. All attendees agreed that the
first priority is to develop a Mission Statement for St. Francis Parish, who we
are now, and where we want to go.
• Motion to approve the March 11, 2008 minutes was made by Terry, seconded by
Greg, approved.
• Treasurer’s Report was given by Don Kepler, showing good financial stability,
aside from a slight increase in utilities. Don presented a request for outreach
funds to be given to the United Thank Offering coming up. After discussion,
motion to allocate $500 to the UTO was made by Greg, seconded by Sheryl, and
approved. Motion to allocate $500 to the Alleluja Fund was made by Darcy,
seconded by Joyce, and approved. After a short discussion regarding the M. Numon
estate closing, income from Safeway, and the Foundation’s role in overseeing
property and assets, the financial report was approved.
• Jr. Warden’s Report was given by Don Eigenberg, reporting that the material is
being acquired for the making the leaves for the memorial tree that Ken will
engrave. Judi Widmaier volunteered to do the paint touch up. Don expressed need
for someone to take charge of getting the past Rector’s photographs finished,
framed, and re-mounted.
• Building and land concerns were addressed. Don reporting that the roof repair
service was present this week, fixed the scuppers, did a general going over, and
discussed the down spouts & need for heating tapes to be installed before next
winter. In addition, the janitor requested a new vacuum be purchased, the
current one is over-heating. After discussion motion to purchase a new vacuum
for $375 from Platte Valley Vac & Sew, was made and approved.
Greg checked on the well, power, and signage issues in regards to the vacant
land property. It will cost approximately $1000 - $2000 to have everything
installed. The matter will be discussed further at a later time. Greg also spoke
to Ferguson Sign, and he could not guess at a price until it is decided what
type of sign is needed.
• Clean up day will be Saturday, April 19th, weather permitting. Volunteers will
meet at 9 a.m., with burgers to follow at noon.
• Graduation gifts and reception were discussed. The high school graduates will
each be given a Book of Common Prayer gift from the congregation. Darcy
volunteered to coordinate the coffee hour reception in their honor.
With no further business, meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer, at 9:15 pm.
