Vestry Meeting Minutes                     St. Francis Church                                        July 8, 2008

The July 8, 2008 Vestry Meeting was held at St. Francis’ Parish Hall and called to order at 7:00 p.m., by Sr. Warden, Brad Bode, with Fr. Kelsey Hogue providing the opening prayer. Also present: Al Williams, Gina Shedd, Greg Suhr, Terry Haney, Darcy Haslam, guests:  Karen Anderson, Bob Manasek, Bob Brown, Treasurer Don Kepler, and Jane Sayre as secretary.  Absent: Don Eigneberg, Julie Fancher, Joyce Walsh,  Pati McLellan, Sheryl Spath.

Minutes of the July 10, 2008 meeting were approved. 

• Treasurer’s Report was presented by Don Kepler.  A $100K Valley Bank CD was cashed in on July 7, to be rolled over to Platte Valley flex CD.  It was suggested that the Building Fund – Platte Valley dollar amount be broken out of the total shown on the report, so it will show an accurate amount in that fund.

After discussion Motion to authorize Don Kepler the authority to open a “Brokerage Account”, was made by Terry, seconded by Gina, and approved.                                                                                                        An audit committee will be formed to conduct the required yearly audit for the Diocese.  Motion to ask Kathy Yates to head up the audit committee, was made by Gina, seconded by Al, and approved. 

Fr. Kelsey noted there are two bequests pending, in unknown amounts which will be coming to St. Francis soon.  He suggests vestry appeal for future bequests to be put into the building fund for a future new building. Motion “unless otherwise indicated” all future bequests and gifts will go into the New Building Fund, was made by Gina, seconded by Al, and approved.

Brad also added that he has offered $4000 to the owners of the vacant lot adjacent to the building site.  The owners will get back to him with a figure.

Motion to accept the Financial Report was made by Al, seconded by Terry, and approved.

Plans for Fall given by Fr. Kelsey:

• Sunday morning Sunday School for youth, and church music.  He will discuss matters with people who will be impacted by the changes, before sharing the details.
• Building is grossly underused during the week – would like to do more activities.  Brief discussion re: Daughters of the King organization.
• Monthly meeting over a noon-hour. Will recruit people to fix luncheon for group.
• Prairied Treasures going to two groups, considering doing four auctions per month.
• Discussion regarding Wednesday activity possibilities.
• Discussion on having only one (9 a.m.) combined Sunday service
• Wants to get Roberta & Gail more active at recruiting a variety of music to incorporate in to services.
• Discussion on 5 year plan for future, define design needs, increased membership.

With no further business, meeting was closed at 8:40pm, with Bob Manasek giving the closing prayer.
