Vestry Meeting Minutes St. Francis Church June 10, 2008
The June 10, 2008 Vestry Meeting was held at St. Francis’ Parish Hall and called to order at 7:00 p.m., by Sr. Warden, Brad Bode, with Fr. Kelsey Hogue providing the opening prayer. Also present: Jr. Warden Don Eigenberg, Joyce Walsh, Julie Fancher, Darcy Haslam, Al Williams, Terry Haney, Gina Shedd, guests: Karen Anderson, Co-Treasurer Kathy Yates, and Jane Sayre as secretary. Absent: Greg Suhr, Pati McLellan, Sheryl Spath.
Minutes of the May 13, 2008 meeting were approved.
Treasurer’s Report was given by Kathy Yates, showing a slight dip in assets, the profit/loss report a bit better than budget, and pledges for May slowed to about even, at present. Motion to accept the financial report was made by Joyce, seconded by Don E., and approved.
Jr. Warden’s report was given by Don Eigenberg, discussing replacement of the current flame-type bulbs in the sanctuary chandeliers with energy saving florescent flame-shaped bulbs. The change will also reduce the electrical draw on the present circuits, which tend to overload & snap the breakers often. Fr. Kelsey is concerned about the safety aspects. Don shared the brochure and information with members and after discussion Motion to purchase the new bulbs, at approximately $400 total, was made by Gina, seconded by Terry, and approved. Don and Bob Brown removed the old amplifier & speakers from the sanctuary, placed them in the Parish Hall, and now we will have ability to use the microphone for meetings and such in the Parish Hall. They also completed installation of the “Memory Tree” and painting of the south wall. It looks great!
Well and sign for the vacant property was discussed. Terry sought bids and the low bid went to Dale Smock, he just needs to know where to put it. Expense will be approximately $500 to dig the well, at 35 ft. depth, plus the cost of the well. Fr. Kelsey and Terry will visit the property and place pin flags where the well needs to be placed.
Lot adjacent to property is once again for sale. After discussion Motion to authorize an offer in the range of $4000.00 to $6000.00 for the lot, was made by Al, seconded by Don, and approved. Brad will meet with John Selzer and proceed.
SUSO Vancouver group met and discussed how to proceed with the process of sharing with the congregation what was learned, and moving forward. Karen suggested doing a presentation, with a carry-in supper on a Wednesday evening. She also has the survey to start the process of gifts assessments ready, and will hand them out to about 30 active members before the end of the month.
Brad read a letter from the Diocese regarding the “Sower’s Fund Project”, containing a $2 bill for the congregation to start its seed fund. After discussion Gina stepped up and offered to donate the first item, a 1976 signed basketball to auction on ebay with proceeds going to the Sower’s Fund. A notice will be put in the newsletter appealing for items to auction.
Annual Golf tournament will be in August, details forthcoming. Cindy Dickinson & Jana Bode will be heading up the committee.
Update on Idaho Bishop’s nomination was shared by Fr. Kelsey. The final vote will be June 28th.
Prairied Treasures update was given by Al, thanking Don and Joan for their generous donation of two very nice office chairs for the ebay project office. They wrangled a crew together, cleaned and organized the work space, and Al gave all the members a quick tour. Al added that monitoring auctions will be easier if we can put an additional auction crew together that can work in the afternoons – more coverage with more people. Al volunteered to train interested people.
Jane conveyed a request for more uplifting sermons, and using familiar hymns while choir is on vacation.
Gina commented that the speaker’s sound in the sanctuary was inadequate in the back of the room. Fr. Kelsey will adjust the sound some more.
With no further business, meeting was closed with prayer, at 7:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jane Sayre
Secretary to the Vestry
